Ol Donyo Sabuk National Park protects the mountain of the same name, Maasai for big mountain and also known as Kyanzavi in Kamba and Kilimambogo in Swahili, in Machakos County about 65 kilometers north of Nairobi near Thika, established in 1967 and covering about 20.7 square kilometers up to an elevation of 2,145 meters. The park shelters buffalo, colobus monkeys, baboons, bushbuck, impala, duiker and abundant birdlife, and its summit offers views toward Nairobi, Mount Kenya and Mount Kilimanjaro. Near the peak lie the graves of Sir William Northrup McMillan and his wife Lady Lucie beside the ruins of McMillan Castle, and the nearby Fourteen Falls on the Athi River are a popular nearby attraction.
