Central Karakoram National Park

Central Karakoram National Park, established in 1993 in the Skardu district of Pakistan's Gilgit-Baltistan region, protects roughly 10,557 square kilometers containing four of the world's fourteen peaks above 8,000 meters, K2, Gasherbrum I, Gasherbrum II and Broad Peak, along with sixty additional peaks above 7,000 meters and the Baltoro, Panmah, Biafo and Hispar glaciers. Ranging in elevation from about 2,000 meters to K2's 8,611 meter summit, it is described as the highest national park in the world and the largest protected area in Pakistan. The park includes the Trango Towers, a renowned destination for rock climbers, was added to UNESCO's World Heritage Tentative List in 2016, and is recognized as an Important Bird Area.
