Chubu-Sangaku National Park

Chubu-Sangaku National Park protects the Hida Mountains, known as the Northern Alps, across Nagano, Gifu, Toyama and Niigata prefectures in central Japan, designated on December 4, 1934 and covering about 1,743 square kilometers. Multiple peaks exceed 3,000 meters, including Mount Hotaka and Mount Tate, and the park is the source of Japan's longest river, the Shinano, which begins here as the Azusa River. The Kamikochi valley within the park has made it the most important hiking area in Japan.
