Daisetsuzan National Park

Daisetsuzan National Park occupies the mountainous center of Hokkaido, Japan, designated on December 4, 1934 and covering about 2,268 square kilometers, making it the largest national park in the country. Its name means great snowy mountains, and it holds 16 peaks above 2,000 meters across three volcanic mountain groups, including Asahi-dake at 2,290 meters, Hokkaido's highest point. The park draws roughly six million visitors a year to its alpine meadows, backcountry and hot spring resorts, and is home to brown bears and pikas.
