Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park

Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park spans Yamanashi, Shizuoka and Kanagawa prefectures and western Tokyo, Japan, first designated on February 1, 1936 as Fuji-Hakone National Park, one of the country's first four national parks, and renamed after the Izu Islands were added in 1950. Covering about 1,227 square kilometers, it is a dispersed collection of sites rather than one contiguous area, including Mount Fuji, the Fuji Five Lakes, the Hakone hot spring district, the Izu Peninsula and more than 1,000 volcanic islands of the Izu archipelago. Its accessibility from Tokyo makes it the most visited national park in Japan.
