Keoladeo National Park, also called Keoladeo Ghana National Park, is a national park in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, India, covering about 29 square kilometers of dry grassland, woodland, swamp and seasonal wetland. It developed from a duck-hunting reserve established in 1899 into a protected sanctuary through the advocacy of ornithologist Salim Ali, gaining sanctuary status in 1971 and national park designation on March 10, 1982; UNESCO listed it as a World Heritage Site in 1985. The human-made wetland functions as a flood buffer and a water source for regional livestock, and it hosts at least 400 recorded bird species along with substantial fish, reptile, amphibian, mammal and plant diversity.
