Nameri National Park

Nameri National Park lies in the foothills of the eastern Himalayas in Sonitpur district, Assam, India, about 35 kilometers from Tezpur, covering some 200 square kilometers since its establishment in 1978. It shares its northern boundary with the neighboring Pakhui Wildlife Sanctuary in Arunachal Pradesh, together forming a protected expanse of more than 1000 square kilometers, and the Jia Bharali river runs along its southern edge. Nameri was declared the second tiger reserve in Assam in 2000 and its forests hold Bengal tigers, Indian leopards, clouded leopards, sloth bears, Himalayan black bears, capped langurs and 374 recorded bird species including hornbills, storks and the white winged wood duck.
