Sanjay Gandhi National Park

Sanjay Gandhi National Park is a national park of about 104 square kilometers within the city of Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, with its headquarters at Borivali and territory extending into the Mumbai Suburban and Thane districts; it was established in 1996 and draws more than two million visitors a year, making it one of the most visited protected areas in India and one of the few protected areas anywhere that sit within the limits of a major metropolis. The park holds over 1000 plant species, 251 recorded bird species and about 40 mammal species including a notably dense urban population of leopards, and it contains the roughly 2400 year old Buddhist Kanheri caves and the Vihar and Tulsi lakes, which supply part of the drinking water for Mumbai.
