Shikotsu-Toya National Park occupies southwestern Hokkaido near Sapporo, Japan, designated on May 16, 1949 and covering about 993 square kilometers. It is named for the volcanic caldera lakes Shikotsu and Toya, and includes Mount Yotei, Mount Usu and the lava dome Showa-shinzan, which first rose out of farmland in a series of eruptions beginning in 1944.
