Hohe Tauern National Park

Hohe Tauern National Park is a national park in Austria that stretches for 100 kilometers along the Hohe Tauern mountain range and is owned by the Austrian Alpine Club. Covering about 1,834 square kilometers, it is by far the largest national park in Austria and the largest nature reserve in the Alps. The park is divided into a core zone of 1,198 square kilometers, including the Grossglockner and Grossvenediger massifs, where agricultural use is completely prohibited, and a fringe zone of 638 square kilometers used for forestry and alpine meadow farming. Classified IUCN Category II, it protects the Pasterze and numerous other glaciers, the Krimml Waterfalls, glacial valleys, alluvial fans, tundra and forest.
