Hiidenportti National Park

Hiidenportti National Park lies in Sotkamo in the Kainuu region of Finland, established in 1982 to preserve the wilderness of the area. It covers 45 square kilometers of mires and dry forest, two-thirds of it coniferous forest in a near-natural state averaging 100 to 150 years old. Its best known feature is the Hiidenportti gorge, whose vertical cliffs run for about a kilometer and reach up to 20 meters high.
