Lower Oder Valley National Park is a German-Polish nature reserve along the Oder river, with its German portion, the Nationalpark Unteres Odertal, covering the western riverbank in the Uckermark district of Brandenburg and headquartered at an information center in Criewen. Established in 1997, the German park covers about 105 square kilometers, part of a combined protected area of roughly 1,172 square kilometers that includes the adjoining Polish Dolina Dolnej Odry landscape park on the river's eastern, steeper bank in the Gryfino and Police counties of West Pomeranian Voivodeship. The flat western floodplain is managed with levees that are opened each winter and spring to let the river flood the meadows, then closed again in April.
