Aspromonte National Park

Aspromonte National Park lies in the southern Apennines in Calabria, Italy, and was established in 1989 over an area of about 641.53 square kilometers. Its territory sits near the sea yet rises to mountain summits close to 2,000 meters, with Montalto reaching 1,955 meters, and is crossed by several watercourses. Forests of beech, silver fir, black pine, holm oak, sweet chestnut and Mediterranean maquis shrubland dominate the landscape, home to the Italian wolf, peregrine falcon, Eurasian eagle-owl, northern goshawk, Bonelli's eagle and the rare fern Woodwardia radicans. The park is also rich in historical, artistic and archaeological remains, and was recognized as a UNESCO Global Geopark on 21 April 2021.
