Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park

Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park is an Italian national park in the Province of Salerno, in Campania in southern Italy, founded in 1991 under the earlier name Parco Nazionale del Cilento e Vallo di Diano. Covering about 1,810.48 square kilometers, it encompasses much of the Cilento region, the Vallo di Diano valley, and the Monti Alburni mountain range, and was created to protect the territory from building speculation and mass tourism. In 1998 UNESCO designated the park a World Heritage Site together with the nearby archaeological sites of Paestum, Velia, and the Certosa di Padula.
