Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park

Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park is a natural park in central Italy, established in 1991 and covering about 2,014 square kilometers, mostly within the provinces of Teramo, L'Aquila and Pescara in Abruzzo, with smaller areas in Rieti in Lazio and Ascoli Piceno in Marche. Its predominantly mountainous terrain includes alpine plains, and the park is centered on the Gran Sasso massif, home to the Calderone glacier, described as Europe's southernmost glacier, as well as the Monti della Laga chain of alpine pastures and forested slopes. It is managed by the Ente Parco Nazionale Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga, headquartered in Assergi, L'Aquila.
