La Maddalena Archipelago National Park

La Maddalena Archipelago National Park is a geomarine national park off the coast of Sardinia, established on 1 April 1994 and adjusted by decree on 17 May 1996. It covers more than 12,000 hectares of land and sea and around 180 kilometers of coastline, encompassing every island and islet within the Municipality of La Maddalena, including La Maddalena, Caprera, Spargi and Budelli. The park is intended to form an important part of a planned Bocche di Bonifacio international marine park. Budelli island was long home to Mauro Morandi, who lived in a former Second World War shelter there from 1989 as an unofficial caretaker before later being relocated to an apartment on La Maddalena.
