Stelvio National Park

Stelvio National Park is a national park in northeast Italy, established in 1935 and ranking as the fourth largest national park in the country. It spans two regions, Trentino-Alto Adige/Sudtirol and Lombardia, across 24 municipalities, with elevations ranging from about 690 meters to 3,905 meters, and lies near the Swiss border. The park and its bordering protected areas together comprise around 400,000 hectares of protected mountain environment. In December 2025 researchers reported roughly 20,000 dinosaur footprints from the Triassic period within the park, described as one of the largest Triassic trace fossil sites yet found.
