Saltfjellet-Svartisen National Park

Saltfjellet-Svartisen National Park spans Nordland county in Norway across the municipalities of Beiarn, Meloy, Rana, Rodoy, Saltdal and Bodo, designated by royal decree in 1989. The park itself covers about 2,102 square kilometers, part of a wider protected complex of roughly 2,839 square kilometers with adjacent landscape protection areas and nature reserves, and its terrain ranges from coastal lowland to birch-covered valleys and alpine tundra. The Svartisen glacier, Scandinavia's second largest at about 370 square kilometers, dominates the southwest and feeds numerous rivers and lakes, while calcareous bedrock supports unusually rich plant diversity and traditional Sami reindeer herding continues within the park, with about 4,783 animals recorded across two grazing districts in 2014.
