Saxon Switzerland National Park

Saxon Switzerland National Park lies in the Free State of Saxony near Dresden, protecting two separate areas totaling 93.5 square kilometers within the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, the rugged sandstone region commonly known as Saxon Switzerland. Established in 1990, the park is an intensively fissured, rocky canyon landscape with sharp vertical relief, rising from the Elbe river valley at about 110 to 120 meters elevation to its highest point, the Grosser Winterberg, at 556 meters. It directly adjoins Bohemian Switzerland National Park across the border in the Czech Republic.
