Snowdonia National Park is a national park in North Wales, established in 1951 as one of the first national parks designated in Britain, and named for Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales, which rises near its center. The park protects a mountainous landscape shaped by glaciation, along with lakes, forests and a stretch of coastline, and it retains a living cultural landscape of Welsh-speaking hill-farming communities and the historic slate-quarrying industry that once made the region a major source of roofing slate. It is administered by the Snowdonia National Park Authority.
