Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone National Park is a national park in the northwestern United States, spanning parts of Wyoming, Montana and Idaho over the Yellowstone Plateau. Established by the 42nd US Congress and signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant on March 1, 1872, it was the first area in the world formally set aside by a national government as a national park, becoming the model the US National Park Service and, later, protected-area systems worldwide would follow. The park sits atop the Yellowstone Caldera, a large active volcanic system that supplies roughly half of the world's geothermal features, including the Old Faithful geyser, and it protects large populations of grizzly bears, wolves, bison and elk within one of the largest substantially intact temperate ecosystems on Earth.
