Archipiélago de Juan Fernández National Park

Archipiélago de Juan Fernández National Park protects most of the Juan Fernández Archipelago in the Valparaiso Region of Chile, about 665 kilometers west of the mainland port of San Antonio, and has been a national park since January 16, 1935. Covering 96 square kilometers across Robinson Crusoe Island, Alejandro Selkirk Island and Santa Clara Island, it holds exceptional endemism, with 126 of its 209 native vascular plant species found nowhere else, and is the last refuge of the Juan Fernandez firecrown hummingbird and the recovering Juan Fernandez fur seal, whose population has grown from about 750 animals in 1970 to the tens of thousands today.
