Cerro Castillo National Park

Cerro Castillo National Park lies south of Coyhaique in the Aysen Region of Chile and takes its name from Cerro Castillo, its highest mountain and main attraction, with the Carretera Austral highway running through the park. First protected as a national reserve in 1970, it was reclassified as a national park in 2018 through an agreement involving President Michelle Bachelet and Tompkins Conservation and now covers about 1,795.5 square kilometers, sheltering endangered South Andean deer (huemul) and Andean condors as part of the National Huemul Corridor, a rewilding partnership between Rewilding Chile and CONAF.
