Desierto Florido National Park, created by supreme decree on March 8, 2023 in the Atacama Region of Chile between Copiapo and Vallenar, covers about 57,107 hectares in the Copiapo commune and is the sixth national park established in northern Chile. It protects the driest desert on Earth during its desierto florido, or flowering desert, phenomenon, an occasional mass bloom of more than 200 wildflower species triggered by El Nino linked rains.
