Médanos de Coro National Park

Médanos de Coro National Park protects a desert and coastal landscape in Falcón State, Venezuela, near the city of Santa Ana de Coro on the Médanos Isthmus along the road to Paraguaná. Established on February 6, 1974 and classified IUCN Category II, the park covers about 91 square kilometers across an alluvial plain formed by the Mitare River delta, an aeolian plain of wind shaped dunes, and a littoral plain with mangrove swamps and salt marshes. Its best known feature is a field of sand dunes reaching about 40 meters in height, spanning roughly 5 by 30 kilometers and constantly reshaped by wind.
