Pan de Azúcar National Park

Pan de Azúcar National Park, straddling the Antofagasta and Atacama regions of Chile near Chanaral, was established in 1985 and covers about 438 square kilometers combining the coastal desert of Taltal with the steppe desert of the Sierra Vicuna Mackenna. Coastal fog known locally as camanchaca compensates for the near total absence of rainfall, sustaining a relative diversity of species along this stretch of Pacific coast.
