Basaseachic Falls National Park

Basaseachic Falls National Park, established on 2 February 1981 in Mexico's Sierra Madre Occidental, protects the region around Basaseachic Falls, the second-tallest waterfall in Mexico at 246 meters, along with the surrounding Candameña Canyon, whose walls rise as high as 1,640 meters. Covering about 5,803 hectares, the park's pine-oak forest contains 92 species of conifer and 76 species of oak, and its wildlife includes cougars, white-tailed deer and rattlesnakes. It is also home to the mountain trogon, an endangered species endemic to the region that carries symbolic significance for Mexicans.
