La Cangreja National Park

La Cangreja National Park lies in the Puriscal canton of San Jose Province in west central Costa Rica, within the Central Pacific Conservation Area near the Pacific coast. It was protected from 1987 as the Cerro de la Cangreja Protected Zone before being redesignated a national park in 2002. Covering about 4,600 acres, its forests hold diverse wildlife, with more than 300 recorded bird species, including scarlet macaws, trogons, toucans, and the sunbittern, along with agoutis, coatis, collared peccaries, green and black poison dart frogs, and ctenosaurs.
