Miravalles Jorge Manuel Dengo National Park

Miravalles Jorge Manuel Dengo National Park is a national park and nature reserve in northwestern Costa Rica, part of the Arenal Tempisque Conservation Area. Created by executive decree on 5 June 2019 as the twenty ninth national park of Costa Rica, it was formed by allocating about 43 square kilometers from the former Miravalles Protected Zone. The park encompasses Miravalles Volcano, whose last recorded activity was steam venting in 1946, and is named for Jorge Manuel Dengo, an advocate for Costa Rican conservation and a driving force behind the national park system; nearby geothermal and solar facilities draw on the volcanic heat and sunlight of the area for electricity.
