Piedras Blancas National Park

Piedras Blancas National Park lies in Puntarenas Province in southern Costa Rica near La Gamba, protecting rainforest and beaches along the Golfo Dulce on the Pacific coast. It began in 1991 as the Esquinas Sector of Corcovado National Park before becoming an independent park in 1999, after logging had threatened its forests and was curbed through increased ranger presence and land purchases by conservation organizations. Covering about 14,019 hectares, the dense evergreen forest of the park is home to at least 96 recorded mammal species, including 53 bat species, its richest mammal group.
