Tenorio Volcano National Park

Tenorio Volcano National Park, in the Guanacaste Province of northern Costa Rica about 42 kilometers northeast of Fortuna, was established in 1976 and expanded to include Tenorio Volcano itself in 1995, and covers about 129 square kilometers within the Arenal Tempisque Conservation Area. The IUCN category II park is known for the Rio Celeste, whose strikingly blue water results from the scattering of light by suspended mineral particles, along with thermal springs, geysers, and waterfalls. Its landscape ranges from cloud forest at higher elevations to rainforest below, home to tapirs and pumas.
