Theodore Roosevelt Island is an 88.5 acre island and national memorial in the Potomac River in Washington, D.C., maintained by the National Park Service as part of the George Washington Memorial Parkway. During the Civil War it served as a training camp for United States Colored Troops, and in 1932 it was given to the federal government by the Theodore Roosevelt Association as a memorial to the twenty sixth president. The island is preserved as natural parkland reached only by footbridge, with hiking trails and a memorial plaza built around a large statue of Roosevelt.
