Zapopan is a city and municipality in the Mexican state of Jalisco, part of the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area and the most populous municipality in the state. Once a separate colonial town built around the Basilica of Our Lady of Zapopan, an important Catholic pilgrimage site, Zapopan has grown into a major residential and commercial extension of Guadalajara while retaining its own distinct historic center and civic identity.
