Sinai Peninsula

Peninsulas

The Sinai Peninsula is a triangular peninsula in northeastern Egypt, forming the only part of the country lying in Asia rather than Africa. Bounded by the Mediterranean Sea to the north and the Gulf of Suez and Gulf of Aqaba to the west and east, it is separated from mainland Africa by the Suez Canal and connects Africa to the rest of Asia by land. Its terrain ranges from coastal plains and sandy desert in the north to a rugged granite mountain massif in the south, where Mount Sinai and Mount Catherine, Egypt's highest peak, rise above arid valleys long traveled by pilgrims and traders.
