The cool phase of the El Nino-Southern Oscillation, marked by unusually cool sea surface temperatures across the central and eastern tropical Pacific and a strengthening of the normal trade winds. It tends to shift global weather patterns in roughly the opposite direction to El Nino, often bringing wetter conditions to parts of Australia and Southeast Asia and drier conditions to parts of the southern United States.
