Astrakhansky Nature Reserve is a Russian zapovednik covering islands and wetlands of the Volga Delta, where the Volga River meets the northwestern Caspian Sea in Astrakhan Oblast. The reserve protects an extensive system of reed marsh and willow floodplain that serves as critical habitat for waterbirds and wading birds, and its waters hold roughly fifty documented fish species, including the beluga sturgeon. It has held Ramsar wetland status since 1975 and joined UNESCO's Biosphere Reserve network in 1984.
