The Bakossi Forest Reserve is a 5,517 square kilometre reserve within the Bakossi Mountains of Cameroon, created in 1956 and home to rare plants, animals and birds. It contains the smaller Bakossi National Park, established by decree in 2008 to preserve plant diversity, and in 2000 its main section was designated a protection forest with a logging ban and a strict nature reserve at Mount Kupe. The reserve holds one of the healthiest remaining populations of the endangered drill primate, along with Preuss's monkey, chimpanzee and more than 329 recorded bird species on Mount Kupe alone, including the endangered white-throated mountain babbler.
