The Living Coast, formerly known as the Brighton and Lewes Downs Biosphere Reserve when it was established in 2014, is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve on the southeast coast of England near Brighton and Hove in Sussex. It forms a central unit of the South Downs National Park's hills, centred on the Brighton chalk block between the River Adur to the west and the River Ouse to the east, with chalk downland as its principal terrestrial landscape bounded by the two river valleys, and a coastline of high chalk cliffs in the east giving way to urbanized plains running to the Adur estuary at Shoreham-by-Sea in the west.
