Burhou is a small, uninhabited island about 1.4 miles northwest of Alderney in the Channel Islands, within the Bailiwick of Guernsey. It has no permanent residents, and thin soil, salt spray and a lack of reliable fresh water make it unsuited to settlement, but it supports colonies of puffins, storm petrels and rabbits; landing on the island is banned each year from March 15 to August 1 to protect nesting seabirds. In 2005 it was designated a Ramsar wetland as part of the Alderney West Coast and the Burhou Islands site.
