Children's Eternal Rainforest

The Children's Eternal Rainforest is a private nature reserve in the Puntarenas and Alajuela provinces of Costa Rica, protecting Pacific slope forest from agricultural development. Established in 1987 and managed by the nonprofit Monteverde Conservation League, it covers about 23,000 hectares. The reserve began when Swedish schoolteacher Eha Kern students raised funds, an initial 18,000 dollars, after learning from American biologist Sharon Kinsman about threats to the rainforest, and by 1998 it had grown into the largest private biological reserve in Central America.
