Chippokes State Park, formerly Chippokes Plantation State Park, sits on the south side of the James River in rural Surry County, Virginia, along the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail. Established in 1967 and covering nearly 1,950 acres, the Virginia state park combines forests and a fossil hunting beach with three preserved historic houses and an open air agricultural and forestry museum. The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation also maintains a visitor center, swimming pool, hiking trails, cabins, yurts, and campgrounds at the site, which drew more than 173,000 visitors in 2020.
