El Rabanal is a small protected area of 16 acres of critical secondary forest in the municipality of Cidra, Puerto Rico, within barrio Rabanal and part of a 5,438-acre watershed drained by El Banco Creek into the La Plata river system. Established in 2002 as a conservation easement by the Asociacion de Pequenos Agricultores de Rabanal and the Puerto Rico Conservation Trust, Para la Naturaleza, it protects nesting habitat for the Puerto Rican plain pigeon and other native birds, home in total to 21 recorded bird species, seven of them regionally endemic, while supporting sustainable agriculture education.
