Eynhallow is a small, uninhabited island in Eynhallow Sound in Orkney, Scotland, lying between the island of Rousay and the Mainland of Orkney and covering about 75 hectares. Strong tidal surges in the surrounding strait make the crossing difficult, and the island has been uninhabited since 1851 when its last crofters were cleared away, a clearing that led to the rediscovery of a twelfth-century church that may once have been part of a monastery, now cared for by Historic Environment Scotland. The island functions today as a bird sanctuary, visited mainly on organized trips run by the Orkney Heritage Society.
