Great Bear Wilderness

Great Bear Wilderness is a protected wilderness area in the Flathead National Forest in northern Montana, in the United States. Created by an act of Congress in 1978, it covers 286,700 acres and borders the Bob Marshall Wilderness to its north, together forming part of the roughly 1.5 million acre Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex. The wilderness lies west of the Continental Divide and includes Great Northern Mountain, rising to 8,705 feet, and the Middle Fork of the Flathead River. Its dense coniferous forests and rugged terrain provide prime habitat for grizzly bears, and it carries more than 300 miles of hiking trails. It is managed by the United States Forest Service.
