Hotokenuma is a wetland in the northern part of the city of Misawa, Aomori Prefecture, in Japan's northern Tohoku region, connected to the eastern shore of Lake Ogawara near the Shimokita Peninsula. It was given national protection as a bird sanctuary on November 1, 2005 across 737 hectares, with a 222-hectare core designated a Special Protected Area and, the same day, registered as a Ramsar site under reference number 1543; Japan's Ministry of the Environment separately listed it among the country's 500 Important Wetlands in 2002. The site supports 228 plant species, 161 bird species and 11 mammal species, and is a nesting habitat for the Japanese marsh warbler.
