Ilmensky Nature Reserve is a Russian zapovednik in Chelyabinsk Oblast in the southern Ural Mountains, created by a 1920 decree of Vladimir Lenin as a mineralogical nature reserve. Situated in the Chebarkulsky District just north and east of the city of Miass, it protects an unusually dense concentration of mineral species within the Ilmen Mountains, making it one of the earliest reserves anywhere established specifically for geological rather than biological protection. It sits close to Taganay National Park and remains an active center for mineralogical research within the Ural range.
