Kolovesi National Park lies in the Etela-Savo region of Finland, established in 1990 and covering about 23 square kilometers. It protects the habitat of the critically endangered Saimaa ringed seal amid a rugged, ice age carved landscape of craggy cliffs rising straight from the water, and cave paintings have been found within its boundaries. Motorboats are banned in the park, while kayaking, canoeing and rowing are permitted alongside several marked hiking paths.
