Kronotsky Nature Reserve

Kronotsky Nature Reserve is a strict nature reserve on the eastern coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia's Far East, formally established in 1934, its protection tracing back to an earlier sable reserve set aside in the nineteenth century. It protects an intensely volcanic landscape of active and dormant volcanoes and hot springs, most famously the Valley of Geysers, one of the largest geyser fields on Earth, part of which was reshaped by a major landslide in 2007. The reserve shelters brown bear, Steller's sea eagle and salmon-spawning rivers, and it forms part of the Volcanoes of Kamchatka UNESCO World Heritage Site.
