The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, known in Spanish as Reserva Biologica Bosque Nuboso Monteverde, is a Costa Rican reserve along the Cordillera de Tilaran spanning the Puntarenas and Alajuela provinces. Founded in 1972, it protects over 10,500 hectares of cloud forest and draws around 70,000 visitors a year. The reserve is noted for its exceptional biodiversity, with more than 2,500 plant species, including the most orchid species found in a single place, along with around 100 mammal species, 400 bird species, and 120 reptile and amphibian species.
