North York Moors National Park is a national park in North Yorkshire, England, designated in 1952 under the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949. It covers about 1,436 square kilometers and contains the largest expanse of heather moorland in the United Kingdom, spanning some 440 square kilometers of the park. Alongside the moorland, the park has deep dales with farmland and woodland and a stretch of the Yorkshire coast with cliffs and rocky shores, and it holds historic abbeys and castles along with almost 1,400 miles of public rights of way. Around 22,935 people lived within the park at the 2021 census. It is managed by the North York Moors National Park Authority, based in Helmsley.
